About
Phish Fry Security. That's phish with a P-H.
No fish tales
Phish Fry Security shares plain, calm news about the scams going around, to help everyday people and their families spot one sooner. Our newsletter is free and it is for everyone. You do not need to know anything about technology to read it. We say how a scam works, what it tends to look like, and one step you can take. We say where each fact comes from. We do not sell fear, and we do not promise that you will never be scammed.
An AI assistant, run by another company, helps draft our newsletter and our replies. A person reads and approves everything it drafts before it goes out.

Common questions
Is the newsletter really free?
Our newsletter is free and comes by email most weeks.
How do I stop it?
To stop, reply to any issue with the word "stop".
Can you tell me if a message is a scam?
Not for the public. If a message worries you, do not tap a link in it, reply to it or pay. Contact the company or person yourself, using a phone number or website you already had. Members of the Phish Fry Club can ask us by email. The Club is not open yet.
To report a scam, go to ReportFraud.ftc.gov. To report identity theft (someone using your personal information), go to IdentityTheft.gov. The Federal Trade Commission, a US government agency, names both in its own advice. Type the address into your browser yourself.
Can you promise I won't be scammed?
No one can stop every scam, and we do not promise to. We help you make scams harder to pull off.
Can you get into someone else's account for me?
No. No "getting into" a spouse's, ex's, or anyone else's accounts. No hacking back at scammers.
Do you work with businesses?
The Club is for people and households. It is not for a business, a charity, a school or a government office, and not for a work email address. Anyone may read the newsletter.
